  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Nuri Sahin was brought on as Edin Terzic's replacement as Borussia Dortmund boss ahead of the 2024/25 season, having garnered coaching experience while being at the helm for Turkish outfit Antalyaspor. The club legend, who made 274 appearances for BVB during two different spells at the club, has not gotten off to a great start, though.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Dortmund reached the Champions League final last season, which they lost 2-0 to Real Madrid and it seemed like Terzic had laid the foundation for a great BVB side to emerge. Unfortunately, the team has been on a decline under Sahin in 2024-25 and the recent second-round shock exit at the hands of Wolfsburg in the DFB-Pokal has only further exacerbated the situation.

  • WHAT SEBASTIAN KEHL SAID

Amid growing pressure, Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has come out in public to extend his support to the under-fire Sahin. Following the 1-0 extra time loss to Wolfsburg in the Cup, Kehl told the reporters (h/t CNA): "It is clear that we are not satisfied with the overall situation of our results. But we have to stick together and work hard on things. We are lagging behind in our goals. But we will go through it together. This is a situation that Dortmund has handled successfully in the past."

    WHAT NEXT FOR BORUSSIA DORTMUND?

Although Kehl has assured (for now) that Sahin's job is safe, Dortmund's next game is up against an RB Leipzig side that are in red-hot form currently. A loss against them on Saturday, November 2, could potentially deepen the crisis, both for the club and for Sahin.
