WHAT HAPPENED?
The final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park ended in dramatic scenes on Wednesday as James Tarkowski rescued a point for the hosts with a stoppage-time equaliser. A mass brawl then broke which saw Abdoulaye Doucoure and Curtis Jones sent off as well as Slot and assistant Sipke Hulshoff. Slot did not speak after the match, as his press conference was cancelled, but did appear to have been sanctioned for his actions.
WHAT THE PREMIER LEAGUE SAID
A statement from the Premier League read: "Liverpool head coach Arne Slot was dismissed at the end of the Merseyside derby for using offensive, insulting, or abusive language. He is handed a two-match touchline ban as a result." However, this has since been deleted causing confusion. According to The Athletic's James Pearce, the statement was a "mistake" and the Premier League are "yet to review the referee's report and decide what action to take."
AFPTHE BIGGER PICTURE
The Premier League now have three working days in which to charge Slot. As things stand, he is currently able to be on the touchline for Liverpool's next game against Wolves in the Premier League on Sunday. However, if he is subsequently banned, then assistant coach Johnny Heitinga is expected to take over touchline duties.
AFPWHAT NEXT FOR LIVERPOOL?
Liverpool host Wolves at Anfield on Sunday in the Premier League and then head to Aston Villa on Wednesday, February 19. The Reds then face a trip to Manchester City to take on Pep Guardiola's side.
