'Are you stupid or what?' - Baffled Versailles issue hilarious Cristiano Ronaldo statement after bizarre transfer rumour goes viral

Questions have been asked of Ronaldo’s future early in 2025. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has turned 40 years of age, with retirement talk seemingly never far away. He has vowed to play on for a few more years, but it remains to be seen where he ends up.

A contract extension is said to have been agreed at Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, taking him through to the summer of 2026 and the next World Cup finals. Beyond that, a return to his roots at Portuguese side Sporting has been speculated on.

One club being ruled out of the running are Versailles, with a parody football account stating that CR7 will not be seeing out his playing days with a team that is co-owned by Formula 1 driver Pierre Gasly. Said message was tongue-in-cheek, but quickly went viral.

Versailles have felt the need to issue a response, with a post on their X account being billed as “Official Statement: Cristiano Ronaldo”. In a blunt message to fans wondering what all of the fuss is about, the French club merely said: “Are you stupid or what?”

Ronaldo, who has billed himself as the greatest player of all-time by pointing out that he is more “complete” than the likes of Lionel Messi and Pele, has stated a desire to reach 1,000 career goals before any thought is given to hanging up his record-shattering boots.
