  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Staveley and her husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi could be set for a swift return to the Premier League since stepping away from Newcastle after three years at St James' Park. The couple are now considering investing in Premier League rivals Tottenham after raising £500 million ($646m) through her investment fund PCP Capital Partners, according to Bloomberg.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Ligue 1 side Monaco are also a potential investment opportunity, with Staveley said to be studying the options available currently. Initial talks to buy a minority stake in Tottenham have already taken place, with chairman Daniel Levy having previously revealed he is willing to listen to offers. Staveley has just left Newcastle after overseeing the club's £300 million Saudi-led takeover. The club also qualified for the Champions League for the first time since 2003 during her time there and enjoyed a Carabao Cup final appearance at Wembley last year.

  • WHAT LEVY HAS SAID

Levy admitted in April that he was seeking investment in the club, saying: "To capitalise on our long-term potential, to continue to invest in the teams and undertake future capital projects, the club requires a significant increase in its equity base.

“The board and its advisors, Rothschild & Co, are in discussions with prospective investors. Any recommended investment proposal would require the support of the club’s shareholders.”

    WHAT NEXT FOR TOTTENHAM

Fans will have to wait and see if Staveley does decide to make a move and approach Levy over a potential investment in Tottenham. The north London club are currently preparing for the new Premier League season under manager Ange Postecoglou and are currently valued at around £3.5 billion.
