Chris Bassitt and Seth Lugo are slated to toe the rubber Sunday afternoon as the Toronto Blue Jays wrap up their weekend series against the Kansas City Royals at Rogers Centre.

The Blue Jays enter the contest looking to rebound after a rough outing in Friday’s opener, where they coughed up an early 2-0 lead and wound up on the wrong end of a 9-3 final. The loss dropped Toronto to 64-47 on the season, as they continue jockeying for postseason position in the American League.

Kansas City, meanwhile, improved to 55-55 with that win, opening the series on a high note. The Royals took control early and piled on late, tacking on four runs in the ninth to put the game out of reach and grab some much-needed momentum.

Here, GOAL brings you everything you need to know about how to watch Toronto Blue Jays vs Kansas City Royals MLB game, plus plenty more.

Toronto Blue Jays vs Kansas City Royals team news

Toronto Blue Jays team news

Toronto will turn to veteran right-hander Chris Bassitt to help even the series. The 36-year-old is 11-5 on the season with a 4.24 ERA and 1.34 WHIP over 123 innings pitched. While his last start against Baltimore was forgettable, he gave up six runs in just 2.1 innings, Bassitt has been exceptional at home, boasting an 8-0 record with a 2.65 ERA through 12 starts at Rogers Centre.

At the plate, the Blue Jays have leaned on Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who’s batting .292 with 24 doubles, 16 homers, and 67 walks. Bo Bichette continues to pace the team in RBIs with 68, and he’s been swinging a hot bat of late, hitting .333 over his last five games with three RBIs and a walk. Ernie Clement has provided consistency with a .274 average and 21 doubles, while Addison Barger adds punch with 16 homers and a .261 clip.

Kansas City Royals team news

On the flip side, Kansas City will counter with the always-steady Seth Lugo. The 35-year-old righty owns an 8-5 record along with a sharp 3.03 ERA and 1.13 WHIP across 20 starts. He wasn’t his sharpest last time out, yielding three runs over 5.2 innings against Atlanta, but Lugo has been effective on the road this season, holding opponents to a 3.44 ERA over nine starts away from home.

Offensively, the Royals are anchored by Bobby Witt Jr., who’s hitting .286 with 36 doubles, 16 home runs, and 35 walks, one of the most dynamic bats in the league. Maikel Garcia has been reliable as well, posting a team-best .299 average, while Vinnie Pasquantino (.264, 18 HR) and Salvador Perez (20 HR, 66 RBI) continue to supply the power.
