Los Angeles Angels vs Los Angeles Dodgers team news

Los Angeles Angels team news

In Monday's opener, the Halos outslugged the Dodgers 8-7 and never looked back. Yamamoto struggled to contain the Angels’ bats, and Zach Neto stole the show with a perfect 3-for-3 night, including a pair of solo shots. Mike Trout chipped in with a two-run single, while Jose Soriano silenced L.A.’s lineup with six scoreless innings, surrendering just two hits and two walks.

Still, the Angels haven’t been in the best of form, winning only four of their last 11 contests, and they remain six games shy of the final AL wild-card slot. If they’re going to make a late push, they’ll need to start stringing wins together in a hurry.

Veteran righty Kyle Hendricks will take the ball for Anaheim on Wednesday. The 35-year-old enters at 6-8 with a 4.63 ERA and 1.23 WHIP over 22 starts (116.2 IP) this season. In his most recent outing, he went five innings against Detroit, giving up three runs on five hits in a no-decision. Hendricks owns a 3-3 record and 5.53 ERA in eight career starts versus the Dodgers, and last year, they got the better of him twice, combining for seven earned runs on 12 hits and six walks in just 8.1 innings.

Los Angeles Dodgers team news

The Los Angeles Dodgers couldn't get their bats going until the top of the eighth inning last Monday, when Shohei Ohtani launched a solo blast and Max Muncy followed with a three-run homer. By then, though, the damage had already been done. It was a rough outing for Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who was tagged for six earned runs on six hits and five walks over just 4.2 innings.

The loss marked L.A.’s second straight defeat and their sixth in the past 11 games. Despite still clinging to first place in the NL West as of Tuesday morning, the Dodgers could feel the heat, with the San Diego Padres sitting just one game back.

Ohtani will swap the batter’s box for the mound on Wednesday, making only his ninth start of the season. The 31-year-old right-hander has been sharp when called upon, logging a 2.37 ERA and 1.10 WHIP over 19 innings. Last time out, he tossed four frames of one-run ball in a no-decision against St. Louis. Wednesday’s start will be his first-ever appearance on the hill against his former team, the Angels, after spending six seasons in Anaheim.
