Ashley Young is determined to bring a 16-month Manchester United goal drought to an end.

The Red Devils have been flush on the goal front this season, with 25 efforts across all competitions spread between eight players.

Young 5/1 to score v CSKA Moscow

Young is not among those to have found the target, however, with the 32-year-old having to turn the clock back to May 2016 and the final weekend of the 2015-16 campaign to find his last strike.

The versatile winger admits that it is about time he brought that barren run to a close, although he is happy to continue watching others do the business as long as he is playing and positive results are being secured.

Young told MUTV: "I have thought it's about time I get back on the scoresheet.

"But as long as I’m performing and playing well that's all that matters.

"There's been eight different goalscorers so we've had goals from all over the team. I think that's ideal, it's what you need to take you forward and help you to win things.

“Goals from all round the park do help and [Antonio] Valencia's [strike against Everton] will be right up there for the goal of the season, I think."

Ashley Young last Manchester United goal

Young’s goal cause has not been aided by his switch to full-back in recent times, with the one-time sprightly winger now a dogged defender.

His versatility has, however, helped him to keep the game time ticking over and a man who has been at Old Trafford since 2011 believes he is a better player for his many different experiences.

He added: "At my age, you have to read the game more, and at full-back you have to read the game more, I think I've got a good footballing brain to be able to do that.

"I'm just happy to be out there playing and whenever I'm called upon I'll give 100 per cent."

United’s next outing comes in the Champions League away at CSKA Moscow on Wednesday, before the Red Devils face Crystal Palace at home on Saturday.
