Bournemouth duo Callum Wilson and Lewis Cook are ideally suited to become regulars for England, according to manager Eddie Howe.

Twenty-six-year-old Wilson has enjoyed a fine start to the campaign with four goals and five assists in nine appearances in all competitions for the Cherries.

Cook has been equally as influential for a Bournemouth side who are sixth in the Premier League after eight games, following their 4-0 thrashing of Watford on Saturday.

And Howe wants to see both players become integral members of Gareth Southgate's squad for the foreseeable future.

"What else can they do? It's the only thing they can do, consistently perform well for their team in respect of their positions and the rest will take care of itself," he said.

"I don't see a problem with anything in their game, with their age, our style of play - it should all be suited to the England set-up so they just have to concentrate on the basics and keep performing well.

"I've had conversations previously (with Southgate) but I wouldn't say it'd be a regular conversation. We will talk and discuss things."

Southgate gave Wilson his one and only England Under-21 cap in 2014 in the friendly against France, but has shown no willingness to award him senior honours.

But while Wilson is still awaiting his opportunity, Cook made his England debut last March with a 20-minute cameo in the 1-1 friendly draw with Italy at Wembley.

As a result he became the first serving Bournemouth player to represent the senior England side, just months on from lifting the Under-20 World Cup as captain.

He was subsequently named as one of five stand-by players for last summer's World Cup in Russia.

Neither player was included in Southgate's most recent squad which will take on Croatia and Spain in the Nations League later this month, despite the raft of injury problems.

Seven uncapped players have been included, with Jadon Sancho, James Maddison and Mason Mount called up for the first time.
