Sydney FC took home the honours as they won the A-League Grand Final by defeating Melbourne 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw, but the fixture threatened to deteriorate into a boxing match at the start of the second half.
Leigh Broxham went into the back of Milos Ninkovic 10 minutes after the restart, with the Sydney player allowing his temper to flair due to the challenge.
It sparked an ugly scene in the centre of the pitch that involved virtually every player on the field and was resolved with the two protagonists both seeing yellow cards.
Ninkovic ultimately had the last laugh, though, as he converted the penalty that won the day.
