SQUADS & TEAM NEWS

After battling through to the Champions League play-off in 2016-17, Klopp is determined to improve his Liverpool squad with an eye to even bigger prizes next season. The German manager has been busy in the transfer market, bringing in two new faces so far with the promise of more to come.

Mohamed Salah is the most eye-catching name on the Reds roster, and forms part of the squad after completing a £36.9 million move from Roma at the start of July. Fellow new-boy Dominic Solanke is also in Hong Kong having switched Chelsea for Liverpool last week.

Lucas Leiva completes Lazio move

Club stalwart Lucas Leiva, however, is gone, having agreed a move to Lazio, but the Reds are at full strength for the Asia Trophy with all their big guns included in the squad.

The end of the last Premier League campaign at Selhurst Park, meanwhile, heralded a thorough clean-out of the Eagles squad. No less than 12 players were sold or released in the aftermath of the season, including Mathieu Flamini, Steve Mandanda and Joe Ledley, as Frank de Boer looked to streamline his team.

As of yet only Chelsea youngster Ruben Loftus-Cheek has come the other way, on loan. The promising midfielder makes the cut for Hong Kong among the rest of Palace's rather slimmer first-team squad.

Liverpool are 6/10 favourites to win the opener, according to dabblebet, while Palace are 10/3 to prevail. A draw is given at 3/1.

GAME PREVIEW

Frank De Boer Crystal Palace

With just two pre-season friendlies under their belts, the Asia Trophy gives Liverpool a perfect chance to ease their new signings into the squad and go into the Premier League in top form.

Tranmere Rovers and Wigan have come up against the Reds so far, meaning the clash against Palace is a step up in class. The first opponent was dispatched 4-0, while the Latics made Liverpool sweat on the way to a 1-1 draw.

When does the transfer window close?

Palace, however, need even more practice to get into shape. Amid the upheaval caused by Sam Allardyce's resignation at the end of 2016-17 and the arrival of De Boer, there has been precious little transfer activity and playing time for a team that only avoided relegation by the skin of their teeth.

A win over non-league Maidstone marks the Eagles' only run-out since pre-season began, and they are bound to be rusty when the ball starts rolling in Hong Kong. A positive result against Liverpool, however, could prove a great confidence-booster ahead of what is bound to be another tough Premier League year.
