Tottenham grab their best-ever Premier League points return

Spurs 1-0 victory over Palace was enough to give the club a new high in points earned during a single Premier League campaign

Tottenham may or may not finish the 2016-17 Premier League season with the league title, but it will be a memorable season regardless for the club.

A 78th minute goal by Christian Eriksen saw Spurs pull out a 1-0 victory away to Crystal Palace, keeping pace with Premier League leaders Chelsea, who defeated Southampton 4-2 on Tuesday.

The win not only keeps the gap between the two clubs at four points, it also put Spurs on 74 points, which is a club record in the Premier League.

That beat the club’s previous record in the Premier League of 72, set during the 2013-14 season. Tottenham also managed to finish with 70 points twice – in the 2009-10 season and in last year’s title challenge which fell short to Leicester City.

In addition, Spurs are not far off from setting the club’s all-time points mark. A win against London rivals Arsenal on Sunday will see Tottenham hit 77 points, which would equal their best-ever return, set in a third-place finish in the old First Division during the 1984-85 season.

That haul, however, was taken over 42 league games, nine more than the club have currently played this campaign.
