RUMOURS: Lampard lined up for England return

The 38-year-old, who recently left New York City FC, is keen to moving into coaching and has held talks over a place in Gareth Southgate's backroom staff

Frank Lampard is being lined up for a return to the England setup with a backroom role, according to the Daily Star.

The reported interest from Gareth Southgate comes hours after official confirmation that Sammy Lee has left his role as England's assistant manager.

The newly appointed permanent England head coach is keen to bring in his own staff and sees 106-cap midfielder Lampard as a possible option.

Lampard, who retired from international duty shortly after the 2014 World Cup, has just left New York City FC following the conclusion of his contract.

The 38-year-old is understood to be keen on a move into coaching and has held talks over the move.
