Nemanja Matic has admitted that confidence isn't high at Manchester United, but says that every player at the club is ready to play whenever they're called on.

Matic played his part from the start as the Old Trafford crowd were treated to a thrilling 2-2 draw between Jose Mourinho's side and Arsenal on Wednesday.

A David de Gea blunder saw Shkodran Mustafi open the scoring for the Gunners on 26 minutes, though they were pegged back straight away by Anthony Martial.

The clubs traded quick-fire goals in the second half as well, Marcos Rojo finishing into his own net just a minute before Jesse Lingard pulled his side level for the second time.

And while Matic says it's clear that confidence isn't high at the moment, he was proud of the "fight" shown by the club in Wednesday's contest.

"Both teams attacked. It was a great game for the supporters but I thought we deserved a point," Matic told BT Sport.

"Everyone knows the confidence is not high, but this is the fight that we have to show.

"Everyone is ready to play wherever the manager asks."

While Matic thought his side deserved a point from the contest, defender Chris Smalling felt they were unlucky not to find a winner on the night.

"All of us know we are in a tough patch of form and everyone is giving everything to help us through," he said.

"Everyone is digging in. We were on the front foot and pressing them because we know they like to play and I thought we were unlucky not to get the third goal."

The draw leaves both Arsenal and Manchester United sitting outside the top four in the Premier League table, though the London club are now unbeaten in their last 20 games in all competitions, their longest such run since November 2007 (28 games).

Mourinho's side return to league action on Saturday with another home clash against Fulham, while the Gunners will be at Emirates Stadium for a showdown with Huddersfield Town.

Through 15 matches Untied now sit eight points back of the fifth-placed Gunners, who are level on points with fourth-placed Chelsea and sit 10 behind league leaders Manchester City.
