Manchester City equalled their longest sequence of clean sheets away from home in the league during their 4-0 victory at West Ham.

City matched a record that has stood for over 115 years in keeping out the Hammers, and not since they recorded four shut-outs in a row between March and April 1903 has their defence been so miserly on the road.

That record was set when the club were in the second tier, a far cry from 2018 as City retained their two-point lead at the top of the Premier League by swatting aside West Ham at the London Stadium.

Goals from Raheem Sterling, David Silva and two from Leroy Sane guided the champions to a comfortable win in east London in a game that was all but over inside of 35 minutes with the champions rampant.

And it was a day of records for City, with Pep Guardiola’s side becoming the first non-London club to win six consecutive games in the capital since Portsmouth between 1951-1952.

They also become the second team in the Premier League to score four or more goals in three consecutive games away against the same club after Chelsea inflicted similar misery on Bolton Wanderers in 2009-2011.

The champions’ goalkeeper Ederson has not conceded a Premier League goal on the road since Willy Boly scored for Wolves on August 25, the only goal City have conceded away from home this season.

Sterling prodded home from close range after nine minutes to give City the lead before the England forward turned goalscorer to turn in Silva’s low cross.

Sane added a third from Sterling’s cross before half-time and added a fourth deep into injury time.

The champions are two points worse off than at the same stage last season when they set a new record for points, games won and goals scored in the Premier League.

City lead Liverpool by two points after Jurgen Klopp’s side swept to a comfortable 3-0 win away at Watford to keep the pressure on the champions at the top of the league.

Guardiola’s side have scored 13 more goals than the next highest-scoring side Chelsea as they look to retain their crown, and are unbeaten in the league since losing 3-2 at home to Manchester United in April.
