Harry Kane could push for a move away from Tottenham in 2021 if the club fails to match his ambition, admits Teddy Sheringham, but the arrival of Gareth Bale is expected to prevent his head from turning for now.

Big-money moves to various leading sides across Europe have been mooted for the England captain.

Having proved himself to be one of the most prolific frontmen on the planet, interest in Kane is to be expected, especially as Spurs have failed to deliver him much-coveted silverware.

The 27-year-old has remained loyal to the north London club to this point, signing numerous contracts along the way, but has admitted that personal ambition may force him to look elsewhere at some stage.

Sheringham believes another season without tangible success would lead Kane to consider a switch, with there only so many of his best years that he can give to a club that fails to meet his standards.

The former Spurs striker told football.london: “I’ve said Harry Kane is the top centre-forward in the world. He could go to every club in the world. If he became available, every club would want him.

“It’s a tough time for Tottenham. If they don’t match his ambition this season, the writing could be on the wall.

“But Harry has to play to his ability as well, I think he’s dropped his levels recently.

“I know he’s had injuries and it’s the first time I’ve questioned his performances, he’s been outstanding since he broke into the team.”

Tottenham are working hard to put the pieces of a puzzle together around Kane that allow them to be competitive and hit ultimate targets as a collective.

Part of that process has seen them move to bring Bale back to the club from Real Madrid, with the Wales international set to return to the Premier League on an initial loan agreement.

Sheringham considers that deal to be quite a coup and believes the presence of a global superstar will help to convince the likes of Kane to stay put.

He added: “Without a doubt. Good players want to play with good players, top players want to play with top players.

“I didn’t want to leave Tottenham, I wanted top players to come to Tottenham with me. I could see that was never going to happen.

“But if top players come to Tottenham, Harry Kane is going to be delighted.

“When [Jurgen] Klinsmann came to Tottenham, I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was just ‘I’m playing football with Jurgen Klinsmann every day. He is fantastic, this man’.

“Bale will do things in training which Kane will then say ‘I can’t wait to play on a Saturday with him’.

“This is what football is all about at the top level. It’s not all about money, you want to be playing with top players and exciting people who are watching you play football. Simple as that.

“He [Bale] is a player of immense talent, unbelievable talent. If you get the chance to sign him then you have got to.

“Yeah, his best days might be behind him, and injury wise you might worry a little bit. But to have him in your team for 25 out of 45 games in a season, you would be delighted to see the impact he would have.

“I don’t think you could pick a player that would come to play at Tottenham at the moment who would have more impact than someone like Gareth Bale at the moment. So I think it would be an absolutely fantastic signing.”
