Ghana Finish 2010 In 16th Spot In FIFA Ranking

West African country Ghana finished the year 2010 in the 16th position of the monthly FIFA ranking. The one place improvement makes them the second best on the continent having enjoyed a 17th spot in the previous month's ranking.

The World Cup quarter-finalists are behind seven-time African champions Egypt in terms of the continent's highest ranked team, who moved up one place from tenth in the world to ninth.

Another west African giant Ivory Coast followed Ghana on the continent and are now ranked 21st worldwide. Nigeria came fourth, 32nd in the globe while Algeria clinched the fifth position in Africa earning them the 35th spot across the world.

South Africa dropped out of the top 50 to 51st position. Africa's biggest gain was achieved by Botswana who moved up 14 places to 53rd in the world, while the biggest loss was suffered by Eritrea after dropping 12 places to 177.

Reigning world champions Spain finished the year in first position, while World Cup runners-up The Netherlands remain second in the latest edition of the ranking.
