Degenek, who was born in Croatia, had been plying his trade in Germany since 2012 when he first signed with Stuttgart.

The versatile defender has played 33 league matches for 1860 since joining the Bavarian club before last season, while he has played five games for the Socceroos.

Marinos start their J.League campaign on February 25 at home to Urawa Red Diamonds.

Degenek is the third Australian set to play in Japan's top division this year alongside Socceroos team-mate Nathan Burns, who is at FC Tokyo, and former Central Coast Mariners striker Mitchell Duke, who plays for Shimizu S-Pulse.
