De Gea 'happy' at Man Utd amid fresh Real Madrid rumours

David de Gea is “happy where I’m at”, with the Manchester United goalkeeper ignoring the latest round of rumours suggesting a move to Real Madrid could be on the cards.

Since overcoming a testing start to his career at Old Trafford to establish a reputation as one of the top performers in world football, the 27-year-old has long been linked with a switch to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Real have never made any secret of their desire to return a former Atletico Madrid star to his roots, with several attempts having been made to get a deal over the line.

De Gea has, however, remained loyal to United and insists that his sole focus this summer is on World Cup 2018 duty, not speculation hinting at another big-money transfer.

He told reporters ahead of a friendly clash with Switzerland on Sunday: “I’m always calm.

“The important date is June 15.

“The World Cup is important, for us to deliver a good performance, for the team to do well and for things to go as well as possible.

“Personally, I’m happy where I’m at, happy and at the same time I’m focused on the national team.”

Those at Old Trafford have already endeavoured to curb the incessant rumours regarding a possible move to Madrid for their prized No.1.

United boss Jose Mourinho stated back in April that he doubts a sale will be sanctioned, claiming there is “no chance” that he will give the green light to a deal.

The Portuguese added: “I see him here - I don't know what the intentions are of Real Madrid but they should think about another player.”

With the Red Devils under no pressure to sell, De Gea’s focus can remain locked on a World Cup campaign due to kick off against Portugal on June 15.
