Las Palmas v Atletico Madrid Betting Preview: Rojiblancos to rely on defence once more

The visitors boast the best defence in La Liga and we are backing another low scoring game for them when they visit the island of Gran Canaria

Tuesday's game against Villarreal saw Atletico Madrid slip to a surprise 1-0 home defeat.

Diego Simeone fielded a first -choice starting XI against the Yellow Submarine and he would probably like to rest some players on Saturday in Las Palmas given that the side have a Champions League semi-final first leg against Real Madrid coming up on Tuesday.

However, Atletico know they are in a battle for third place with Sevilla and automatic qualification to the group stages of next season's Champions League is a big prize. Simeone therefore will have to take Saturday's game seriously although fortunately for him and his side, they face a team who seem to have already downed tools for the summer.

Las Palmas have lost four of their last six matches during which time they have recorded just one win, and Wednesday night saw them lose 3-0 at relegation-threatened Leganes.

Quique Setien's men remain difficult to beat at home however, with only Real Madrid, Barcelona and Sevilla losing fewer matches in their own stadium. Betfair offer a home win at 9/2 (5.50) while Atletico can be backed at 8/11 (1.72) and the draw is offered at 29/10 (3.90)

With the European showdown against Real Madrid looming it is likely Simeone does make changes to his side and while it will be a competitive team fielded, the likes of Antoine Griezmann could well be rested. Los Rojiblancos have played nine league games on the road since the turn of the year, winning five and drawing four.

Seven of those matches have also seen under 2.5 goals and a repeat is offered at the healthy looking price of evens (2.00). While Las Palmas can generally be relied upon for goals, it is their away matches which have been particularly high scoring, whereas at home things have been more restrained in the final third.

Indeed, seven of their last ten league games at the Estadio Gran Canaria have all seen less than three goals scored and a repeat against the best defence in La Liga on Saturday looks likely.
