Granted, it is a record that most teams in the football world would die to hold - but at Bayern Munich the beginnings of an historic losing streak can just about be glimpsed.

Carlo Ancelotti has found replacing Pep Guardiola hard work since arriving at the Allianz Arena in the summer, despite the criticism the Catalan faced in some circles for failing to deliver the Champions League.

Bayern beaten in five-goal thriller

And the new coach will have to improve drastically to avoid another European washout, as his team fell to Rostov 3-2 on Wednesday to all but end their chances of finishing top of Group D.

It was the Russian club's first win in the competition's group stage, a remarkable feat against the Bundesliga giants.

But Bayern themselves are making history, albeit for the wrong reasons.

That loss, coupled with a 1-0 Der Klassiker defeat to Borussia Dortmund at the weekend, marked the first time the club had lost two consecutive games in the first half of a season since way back in 2004.

Second in Group D, and second in the Bundesliga behind surprise leaders RB Leipzig: Ancelotti's charges need to turn the page if they are to continue the Bavarians' brilliant silverware record upheld by Pep during his three years at the club.
