'Zidane-esque!' - Martin Zubimendi almost rips the net off with absolute ROCKET of a volley for first Arsenal goal against Nottingham Forest to send social media into overdrive

  • How did Zubimendi's brilliant goal come about?

Arsenal, who have established themselves as the league’s best when it comes to scoring from corners, were licking their lips when they earned another in the first half against Forest. And while the visitors initially headed away Noni Madueke’s in-swinger, Zubimendi was lurking on the edge of the box to brilliantly redirect the ball past Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels.

  • How Zubimendi's strike sent social media into overdrive

And following Zubimendi's beautiful effort, social media was sent into overdrive as supporters were quick to share their reactions, with Adil writing on X: "Zubimendi's goal was Zidane-Esque."

Elsewhere, Zubimendi super-fan Zubimendi36 said: "Martin Zubimendi is a walking piece of Art."

Another Arsenal fan, Zion, added: "Nah, Zubimendi is unreal."

Kayrab Thee Rabizm continued the praise for Zubimendi, writing: "On top of his general play, if Zubimendi adds that to his locker...he might just end being our player of the season."

  • Do you remember Zidane's most famous volley?

One of the most successful players in football history, Zidane famously scored one of the greatest volleys of all time in Real Madrid's victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the 2002 Champions League final. Latching onto a deep cross from Roberto Carlos, Zidane found the back of the net with a remarkable left-footed curler.

Zubimendi also scores header in comfortable win over old foe Postecoglou

Not content with his excellent volley, Zubimendi also scored a second-half header as Arsenal wrapped up a routine victory over Forest. The match saw Mikel Arteta's side renew hostilities with new Forest boss Ange Postecoglou, who managed the club's fierce north London rivals Tottenham for two seasons between 2023 and 2025. Postecoglou, who replaced Nuno Espirito Santo in the Forest dugout in midweek, ended Spurs' 17-year trophy drought with victory in the Europa League final in May, before being relieved of his duties a month later.
