Yaya Toure may be denied first head coach role due to John Textor's uncertain situation following Lyon relegation

Former Manchester City midfielder Toure had a first manager's role lined up with Daring Brussels, having agreed a deal with club owner John Textor. However, that move is now being paused, according to Sacha Tavolieri, due to Lyon's recent relegation. The French giants have been kicked down into Ligue 2 after they reported debts of around €500 million (£418m) last year.

Textor's attention is clearly needed elsewhere and that means Toure's move to Belgium has been put on ice for the time being. The former Ivory Coast international has previously had assistant gigs at Standard Liege and the Saudi Arabia national team, having retired from playing in 2019.

Textor has major shares in a number of football teams but he recently sold his stake in Crystal Palace, clearing their path to play in the Europa League next season following a glorious triumph in the FA Cup.

With so much uncertainty surrounding Textor and Lyon, Toure may end up pursuing a new opportunity. Daring Brussels finished third in Belgium's Challenger Pro League last season but were knocked out of the promotion play-offs by Lokeren-Temse.
