Why three goals is still a ‘really good record’ for Paul Mullin as Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenney and Wrexham place even more ‘expectancy’ on star striker

Mullin has been a talismanic presence for the Red Dragons as they have clambered out of the National League – savouring title glory there in record-breaking style – and bounced straight up into League One. The 29-year-old has become a goalscoring centurion in North Wales.

Summer surgery delayed his start to the 2024-25 campaign, allowing others to nail down starting berths. Mullin was, however, to find the target inside 16 seconds away at Rotherham last time out – in what was just his fourth start of the season.

More minutes should come his way now that Jack Marriott has been ruled out with a broken leg, and Parkinson has said of letting Mullin off the lease: “We all know he’s a great player with an ability to score all types of goals and I’m really pleased for him. He’s started four games this season, including in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy, and scored three goals, so that’s still a really, really good record and his all-round performance was brilliant. There’s a lot of expectancy on Paul because of what he’s done for us as a club but he’s come back into the team firing and played a big part in a gritty, resilient away performance.”

Mullin’s overall record for Wrexham stands at 108 goals through 151 appearances. He has won three successive Player of the Year awards at SToK Racecourse and is a firm favourite of Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
