'It's happening!' - The United Strand confirms 'watchalong' plans as Man Utd near fifth-straight win to end nearly 500 days without a haircut

  • Man Utd on verge of five wins

United notched up their fourth win on the spin on Saturday when they beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 at Old Trafford. Bryan Mbeumo swept in the first goal of the game after receiving the ball at the top of the box from a corner. The Cameroon international scored his ninth of the Premier League season to set the Red Devils on their way after Cristian Romero had seen red. Bruno Fernandes then put the game beyond doubt when he fired home from a Diogo Dalot cross and registered his 200th goal contribution for the club.

This victory followed three previous wins. The first came against rivals Manchester City, where Mbeumo was on hand again to help United on their way to another 2-0 victory. Michael Carrick’s men backed this up with a 3-2 victory away at Arsenal courtesy of a late Matheus Cunha stunner and then secured another win in another five-goal thriller against Fulham. Benjamin Sesko was the hero in the 94th minute against the Cottagers as the big-money striker ensured the winning run carried on.

The United Strand, who has been watching on desperately, will now watch Tuesday’s game against West Ham with keen eyes. Should United make it five wins from five games, he will finally be allowed to get his haircut. If Nuno Espirito Santo’s men cause an upset, Ilett will have to wait on and see his hair grow longer and longer still.

  • The United Strand speaks out

With all eyes on The United Strand ahead of the game against West Ham, Ilett confirmed that he will be streaming a live watch along of the game. He posted on social media, saying: “Carrick is at the wheel, this hair is going soon, West Ham next, four out of five done – this is the first time it’s been four in a row since I started the challenge.

“This time it’s happening! Thank you so much to Carrick – thank you, thank you, thank you.

“There will be a watch-along for the fifth game against West Ham. Some exciting plans coming up – more details to come.”

  • Fernandes praises Carrick for turnaround

Carrick has overseen a dramatic turnaround in form at Old Trafford, a ground which had become stale and toxic under previous bosses. Ruben Amorim had endured a torrid time at the club, failing to win more than two games in a row and was deservedly shown the exit door at the start of the year. The Portuguese coach had led United to their worst ever finish last season and oversaw a pitiful display in the Europa League final against Spurs in May.

Under Carrick, the club has been transformed and captain Fernandes has praised the former Red Devils midfielder. He told TNT Sports: “I think Michael came in with the right idea of giving the players the freedom to take responsibility on the pitch to do the decisions that were needed. I think he remembers what I told him the last time he was manager. I thought Michael could be a great manager and he’s just shown it.

“We hope we can help him even more so everyone can see we are good players. That’s why we are at Man United. I think everyone understands the pressure of playing for this club. Everyone knows the expectations around it.“

    Haircut pending?
