Southgate resigned after Euro 2024 heartbreak
England considering Australian
Pursuit would be led by John McDermott
WHAT HAPPENED?
Per The Telegraph, Postecoglou is expected to be on the list of potential replacements for Southgate following his resignation. FA technical director John McDermott is a big fan of the Spurs manager's work, having followed his career since he was managing in Australia.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
McDermott is still compiling his shortlist of potential replacements and the FA are open to the idea of appointing an interim manager to steady the ship. England face the Republic of Ireland in their first Nations League game in September, and the FA are willing to utilise a short-term solution. The favourite for that role would be England Under-21 manager Lee Carsley.
Southgate was initially appointed as an interim manager before developing into one of England's greatest-ever managers, taking the side to two successive European Championship finals, a World Cup semi-final and a quarter-final. Along with Postecoglou and Carsley, the FA are also expected to speak with Eddie Howe, Graham Potter, and Mauricio Pochettino. An ambitious move to appoint Pep Guardiola has also been mooted.

WHAT NEXT?
Spurs will hope that Postecoglou is minded to remain in north London after a fruitful first season in which they finished fifth. It remains to be seen if the FA will make a formal approach.
