‘That time of year’ – Ryan Reynolds in promotion push mood as Sam Smith delivers more drama for Season 4 of Welcome to Wrexham

Season 4 of ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ will be covering the Red Dragons’ exploits across the 2024-25 campaign. They are now competing in League One, having enjoyed a meteoric rise under the stewardship of Hollywood co-owners Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Phil Parkinson’s side saw questions asked of their top-two credentials when suffering a disappointing defeat at Reading. They bounced back in style when digging deep – amid concerns regarding the health of a fan that required lengthy treatment in the stands before being rushed to hospital – during a trip to promotion rivals Wycombe.

Sam Smith grabbed the only goal of that game 12 minutes from time, with the club’s record signing crashing home a stunning volley, and Reynolds – who is accustomed to delivering nerve-shredding scripts - is enjoying the dramatic nature of another epic run-in. He has posted on social media: “It’s that time of year…”

Wrexham are looking to make history in 2024-25 by becoming the first EFL side to enjoy three successive promotions. They have moved up to second place in the third tier table, with nine matches left to take in, but Wycombe do have a game in hand and Parkinson’s men face a thrilling race across the finishing line.
