  • WHAT HAPPENED?

United finally found a solution to the impasse between Amorim and Rashford when they sent him out on loan to Aston Villa for the remainder of the season. The coach, who first dropped the striker from his squad for the Manchester derby in mid-December, has now drawn a line under Rashford and will not take questions on his loan spell at Villa is over.

  • WHAT AMORIM SAID

Amorim told a press conference: "Guys, in the summer. Like we said before, we are fighting for our jobs until the summer. I am just focused on these games. Marcus is in Birmingham now with Unai [Emery], so you can take the questions to another coach. We are just focused on our players."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Rashford is United's fourth-highest scorer despite not starting a game since December 1 and Amorim put pressure on captain Bruno Fernandes and star forward Amad Diallo to score more goals now that Rashford is gone. He also hinted that Kobbie Mainoo could get more opportunities as a 'false nine' despite United losing 2-0 to Crystal Palace with the England midfielder leading the line. He added: "We have to find players to play in different positions, you can see the way we play it’s going to take time and not solve all the problems, we have many shots inside the box and catch one player. Amad can score more, Bruno can score more, even Kobbie Mainoo can score more playing in that position on the pitch. So, we have to improve as a team, we have a little bit of time, let's see in the end of the season."

  • DID YOU KNOW?

United added just two players in the January transfer window, signing defenders Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven while letting Rashford and Antony leave on loan. Amorim, however, defended the club's approach. He explained: "What I feel is that the club is taking its time, we know the urgency of the moment of the team, we're being really careful with transfers because everybody here doesn't want to make the same mistakes of the past."

    WHAT NEXT FOR MAN UTD?

United have lost five of their last seven home games but will be looking to put things right when they host Leicester City in the FA Cup on Friday and welcome back Foxes boss and legendary Red Devils' striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, who was assistant coach under Erik ten and interim manager for four games before Amorim began work at Old Trafford in November.
