Sonia Bompastor 'clearly sees' where Chelsea must improve after derby win against Arsenal as perfect start since replacing Emma Hayes continues

The reigning Women's Super League champions maintained their perfect start to the new season as they breezed past arch-rivals Arsenal 2-1 on Saturday, courtesy of goals from Mayra Ramirez and Sandy Baltimore. Bompastor is yet to lose a game since taking charge of the Blues from Emma Hayes earlier this summer.

However, despite the comfortable win, the Frenchwoman spoke about her team's shortcomings and the areas Chelsea need to improve if they are to continue challenging for major honours under her stewardship.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Bompastor said, "I felt it was a really good start. It was really close to a perfect way to start, but now I just need to make sure we sustain that and be more consistent to be able to play that style for 90 minutes. I wish we were able to possess more of the ball in the second half, managing the tempo of the game, but it is really hard to play against a really good team away from home. The good point is that we didn't concede any goals in the second half. We suffered for sure, but it was a good mentality from us not to concede in the second half.

"There is always room for improvement. I clearly see where we need to improve as a team. As I said in the game against Real Madrid, we need to be more consistent. Even though we have a squad who is young, we have experienced players and should be able to manage the tempo in the game better than we did. You have to give credit to Arsenal. They were playing the whole game with their fans and that gives you so much power. When they were able to score the goal at the end of the first half, it gives them power. We need to reflect on ourselves and how we can do a better job because I know the quality that this squad has."

The west London side will be back in action on Thursday as they next take on FC Twente in the Women's Champions League away from home.
