San Marino make history! Infamous minnows known as worst team in the world score THREE for first-time ever in stunning upset

A couple of months on from winning their first game in 20 years, and their first competitive match ever, San Marino beat Liechtenstein once again on Monday night. That was the first time they have scored three goals in the same game - ever.

To top it off, they topped League D Group 1 after four matches - meaning they will be promoted to League C. They finished with seven points from a possible 12, edging Gibraltar into second. The infamous minnows, who are ranked as the worst international football team in the world, will now face an even tougher task against better sides in the next edition of the Nations League.

San Marino fell behind in the 40th minute through Aron Sele, before second-half goals from Lorenzo Lazzari, Nicola Nanni, and Alessandro Golinucci secured them a stunning victory in Liechtenstein's Rheinpark Stadium.

San Marino, who are the lowest ranked international side in the world at 210, will eagerly wait to find out who they play in the 2026/27 edition of the Nations League.
