‘Some players will be leaving’ – Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney set to trim Wrexham squad as Phil Parkinson talks January exits

Despite Wrexham's impressive journey from clinching the National League title in 2022-23 to currently standing third in League Two, Parkinson is in search of more perfection and is ready to offload deadwood in the ongoing winter transfer window. He is also cautious about adhering to EFL rules on squad size which forbids teams to have more than 22 players on the roster, barring goalkeepers and U-21 footballers.

Speaking to reporters, Parkinson said: "There has been some interest in players who have been out of the picture so we are looking at a few of those situations. There are players who have been on the periphery a little bit who are attracting a bit of interest and we are in discussions with one or two clubs. I imagine that some players will be leaving the club, the 22-man squad rule dictates that."

Parkinson faces challenges in reshaping the squad, considering players like Bryce Hosannah, Callum McFadzean, and Billy Waters were not part of the list submitted in September. However, they have become eligible which could force the team management to let go of a few names to make room for the additions.

However, Parkinson remained discreet about potential new signings and added: "We are just reviewing where we are with our injured players and seeing when they are coming back but obviously we are looking at options."

Wrexham find themselves in an incredible run of form in League Two having won four of their last five matches. After brushing aside Barrow with a convincing 4-1 margin and then overcoming Shrewsbury in the FA Cup they return to league football against AFC Wimbledon on Saturday at the Stok Cae Ras.
