    WHAT HAPPENED?

The green light has been given for the Red Dragons to construct a purpose-built base that will house their men’s, women’s and youth teams. Getting everybody under the same roof has been a long-standing target in North Wales.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Wrexham have enjoyed rapid growth regardless of the issues being endured off the field, with Hollywood co-owners helping to fund a meteoric rise into League One. The intention is to keep climbing and one day reach the Premier League.

    DID YOU KNOW?

They will, however, have to appeal to a greater calibre of player in order to achieve that goal – with the presence of Reynolds and McElhenney only holding so much weight in transfer talks. Chief executive Michael Williamson has made it clear why a new training facility is essential.

  • WHAT CHIEF EXECUTIVE SAID

He has said in The Leader: "The reality is that when we were in the National League and in League Two, we were able to recruit players that were at a quality of the level that were above those leagues and we brought them down to help us on this journey.

"As we move up, recruitment of players in the Championship and Premier League becomes more difficult because they are looking at what facilities are being provided to the players. Training facilities are a critical part of that and we absolutely need to invest in training facilities.

"Colliers Park is fantastic, the pitch is fantastic, but it's not ours. Ultimately, the players go there and they train on the pitch but then they have to come back to The Racecourse to take showers, to get changed and to eat so it's a little bit of a disconnect there. The next step in making sure that we are sustainable as we grow is to have a training facility."

    WHAT NEXT FOR WREXHAM?

The lack of training facilities has not held Wrexham back, as they continue to generate plenty of drama for the club’s award-winning documentary series, and A-list guests are still flocking to SToK Racecourse alongside a loyal fan base that are allowing themselves to dream big.
