Ryan Reynolds reacts to ‘get bored’ & sell Wrexham stake claims as Hollywood superstar explains ‘uptown problem’

Two Hollywood stars completed a stunning takeover at the Racecourse Ground in 2021. They have enjoyed a remarkable journey since then, with the history books being rewritten along the way. Three successive promotions have lifted Wrexham into the Championship.

Reynolds and McElhenney have invested heavily on and off the field, while making it clear from the start - as documentary cameras followed them to North Wales - that the intention was to reach the Premier League.

More funds will be required in order to hit that target, with the billionaire Allyn family already being welcomed on board. It has been suggested that Reynolds and McElhenney could cash in completely if a suitable offer is tabled.

Deadpool star Reynolds has told the Fearless in Devotion podcast of a debate that he now turns a deaf ear to: “There are still people who think we are fading away or we’re going to get bored. I don’t know how you get bored with something like this. I have said this before, I love this sport so much now that I f*cking hate it! I really feel that in my cells.”

He went on to say of chasing the dream and what could happen while heading down that path: “Even if our stake in the club shrinks because we have to go all the way up to the Premiership, that’s what’s called an uptown problem. It doesn’t change a thing in terms of the emotional investment. The financial investment stuff I’ve never cared as much about - emotional investment is my job, that’s Rob’s job, and that’s what we love the most.”

Reynolds and McElhenney have funded another all-expenses-paid trip to Las Vegas for Wrexham’s promotion-winning squad, with players jetting out to the United States before attention turns to transfer business and what promises to be a challenging 2025-26 campaign
