WHAT MULLIN SAID ABOUT REYNOLDS' SHIRT PINCHING

Mullin detailed the scenes after the final whistle in his autobiography My Wrexham Story. "Afterwards, Ryan asked for my shirt. I gave it to him and he immediately stuck it down his trousers, possibly for safekeeping, possibly to ensure I’d never want it back.

"The club hasn’t always been keen on us giving shirts away – originally they were concerned about the cost and set a limit on how many we could hand over – but it’s not easy to refuse the owner of the club.

"I sometimes wonder what happened to that shirt. Maybe some old film poster was shoved out of the way to make room on his living-room wall. Who wants Deadpool when you could have Paul Mullin’s Wrexham shirt?

"Ryan does have a bit of form when it comes to shirt pinching. A couple of weeks later he’d burst into Fozzie’s post-match press conference to demand his shirt. ‘He’s so hungry for the shirt!’ Fozzie joked."

WHAT MULLIN SAID ABOUT THE SCENES AFTER THE GAME

"It was carnage afterwards," Mullin continued. "I came out of the ground and there was a sea of people waiting. It took me twenty minutes just to get to my car. I loved that.

"The club was being successful and people just wanted to say well done and be a part of it. The only thing that bothered me a bit was that people were celebrating as if we’d won the league. To be fair to them, the game had definitely been billed as a winner-takes-all encounter – whoever secures those three points will go up. I never felt like that. The title was miles away. While we were now three points ahead of Notts County with a game in hand, anything could happen."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Wrexham's promotion battle with Notts County was a duel for the ages, with both sides breaking the 100-point barrier in pursuit of the solitary automatic promotion spot. There was plenty of mutual respect too, with Reynolds slamming the league's format and declaring he wanted to see Notts promoted too. Reynolds got his wish, when the Magpies clinched promotion after a heart-stopping penalty shoot-out win at Wembley.

  • WHAT NEXT FOR WREXHAM?

There may well be similar scenes to come judging by the way Wrexham's first season back in the Football League is shaping up. Sitting second among a host of clubs chasing pace-setting Stockport County, there will be plenty of drama before the season is out.
