'Big buzz back' - Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney's work at Wrexham hailed by former winger Carlos Edwards after 'special' return

Edwards, who joined Wrexham in 2000 from Trinidad and Tobago's Defence Force, played a significant role in the club, featuring in 128 games and contributing 16 goals along with five assists. He was invited to the Racecourse Ground for the club's first game of the season against MK Dons and the former winger had a gala time soaking in the atmosphere at the SToK Cae Ras.

Speaking to Football League World, in association with OLBG,Edwards said: "I was invited for the first game of this season. I went up, it wasn’t the best game of games as they lost 5-3. I mean, if you enjoy goals, I think they lost 5-3 to MK Dons. That was the first time I’d been back in over 10 years. Because of the time, with the kids and the wife, doing what I do, I haven’t had the time to travel all that way because I’m still based in Ipswich, so it’s a bit of a trek and hard to find the time to go.

“Going back, it was obviously something special. I haven’t seen the fans for so long, but they still love me up there, I still have fond memories and still have friends up there, so I met up with them. I took the family with me; they’ve never had the chance to see Wrexham, so that was something special. You’re just looking at the club now and there is this big buzz back. They’re playing some good football and doing well in the league, so long may it continue because they suffered too long.”

The Welsh crowd has hardly disappointed the Hollywood owners as they have come out in numbers when the team is in action. The support is swelling with time which has forced the owners to seek permission from the local council to raise a new Kop stand to increase capacity.

Wrexham can clinch the top spot if they beat AFC Wimbledon on Saturday in League Two. Manager Phil Parkinson vowed that the club's fans will create an incredible atmosphere for the home team as they look to push on with their ambitions of rising up the English Football League.
