  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Per the Daily Mail, United are locked in talks with Sporting over Amorim's notice period, which is contractually stipulated to last "a number of weeks". The Portuguese club announced on Tuesday that the Red Devils had communicated their desire to pay the 39-year-old's release clause but it is unclear when he will be able to start work.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Reports have claimed that United had hoped to install Amorim as their new manager before this weekend's Premier League clash with Chelsea, having sacked Erik ten Hag on Monday. However, the Mail state that he may not be able to step into the United dugout before their clash with Ipswich Town on November 24.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

United play Leicester in the EFL Cup in midweek and then play Chelsea, before meeting PAOK in the Europa League and the Foxes, once again, in the Premier League. There is then an international break prior to their encounter with the Tractor Boys on the 24th, meaning Ruud van Nistelrooy may be in interim charge for four games rather than just one.

    WHAT NEXT?

United will hope to iron out the kinks in negotiations as they bid to install Amorim. It is out of the question that he will be in the dugout against Leicester in the EFL Cup, with Van Nistelrooy in charge on Wednesday.
