    WHAT HAPPENED?

    The Irishman won the Academy Award for best actor after his performance in Oppenheimer, with Christopher Nolan's film picking up seven accolades on Sunday night. Murphy, 47, and Keane, 52, were both born in Cork, Ireland, and while the actor is currently in the limelight, he bowed down to the ex-United's man greatness.

    WHAT CILLIAN MURPHY SAID

    The Peaky Blinders actor was asked in the build-up to the Oscars if he was the biggest celebrity from his hometown, to which he replied: "I mean, to me, no one will be more famous than Roy Keane coming out of Cork. I'm a big Roy Keane fan, so he’s always number one for me."

    THE GOSSIP

    Although Murphy professed his love and admiration for Keane, the Hollywood actor is reportedly a Liverpool fan. The Inception star was invited to Anfield with his sons in 2020 and Reds ace Virgil van Dijk admitted Murphy is the most famous person in his contacts book.
