Rob McElhenney makes Field of Dreams reference as Wrexham post best-ever home attendance for nearly 50 years against AFC Wimbledon

During Wrexham's 2-0 win over AFC Wimbledon, the club received a record crowd of 12,478 which was their highest-ever attendance since March 1980. The extra attendance at the game was aided by the introduction of a temporary Kop stand that was available at full capacity. McElhenney made a cheeky reference at the 1989 Hollywood flick Field of Dreams in which the main character played by Kevin Costner, builds a stadium in the middle of a field after being told "If you build it they will come".

After a frustrating first half, second-half goals from Stephen Fletcher and Paul Mullin helped the Red Dragons ease past a toothless Wimbledon side. The win helped the newly promoted side rise to second place in the League Two table behind Stockport County. They now sit just two points behind Stockport with a game in hand over the leaders.

Furthermore, under his original post on X, McElhenney also hinted at the possible renaming of the Kop stand or that there could be a possibility of having new sponsorship support the club.

The Red Dragons will hope to get to the top of the table for the first time this season after they take on Newport County on Saturday, January 20 while Stockport will take on Notts County.
