    The Portuguese inherited managerial reins at Old Trafford in November 2024 following the departure of Erik ten Hag, and was charged with the task of turning a disappointing season around. He picked up just one win from his opening eight games at the helm.

    According to ESPN, on the back of a 3-1 home defeat to Brighton, Amorim was ready to walk away and had to be “talked out of the idea by associates”. There has been little improvement since then, with a record of 13 defeats in 25 Premier League games leaving United’s head coach “really embarrassed”.

    He has, however, guided the Red Devils through to the Europa League final - with domestic rivals Tottenham set to be faced in a continental showpiece that sees major silverware and Champions League qualification come up for grabs.

    After mulling over his options in the new year, Amorim “had to be reassured by senior figures at the club, including CEO Omar Berrada, that he would be backed to turn the team's fortunes around”. United’s board remain convinced that they have the right man for the job.
