Getty Images SportWHAT HAPPENED?
Courtois took centre stage during Real Madrid's exhilarating 1-1 draw with bitter local rivals Atletico Madrid. The Belgian had been booed throughout the game due to his past with the Rojiblancos. Following Eder Militao's opener, the goalkeeper was seen egging on Atletico fans, who proceeded to throw objects at the 32-year-old. The match was then temporarily suspended before the game was resumed after the fans had calmed down. After the restart, Courtois seemed to pick up an injury which has now been confirmed by Real Madrid.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
The Athletic has reported that Courtois is likely to miss at least two games including Wednesday’s Champions League fixture against Lille and Saturday’s La Liga match against Villarreal. Club football will then break for the October international clashes and Courtois will likely only return to action after the break when Real Madrid takes on Celta Vigo on October 19.
GettyDID YOU KNOW?
The Belgian national team's matches will not be of any concern for Courtois as the highly-rated goalkeeper has already announced a temporary retirement from the side as long as Domenico Tedesco remains as Belgium's head coach.
WHAT NEXT FOR COURTOIS?
Due to the issue with the Belgian national team, Courtois will only miss out on two official games overall and will be hopeful to be back when Real Madrid return to action after the international break.
