Rasmus Hojlund responds to claims he copied Man Utd coach and legend Ruud van Nistelrooy in win against Brentford

Hojlund was on target for Manchester United against Brentford as the Danish striker's goal completed their 2-1 comeback win after Ethan Pinnock's controversial goal gave the Bees the lead at Old Trafford. The 21-year-old's delightful chip over Mats Flekken drew a lot of comparisons with Van Nistelrooy's technique during his playing days. However, Hojlund has put down comparisons with the Red Devils legend, who is currently serving as Erik ten Hag's assistant at the club.

Speaking to the media, Hojlund said: "A Van Nistelrooy finish? I don't want to be compared to him. If you want to talk about him, he is a role model for us. I can develop a lot alongside him."

With Ten Hag's job under constant threat at Old Trafford due to Manchester United's abysmal start to the season, Van Nistelrooy has been linked with potentially taking over from the Dutchman in case of his sacking. The former striker is said to be a popular figure at Old Trafford. Hojlund further added comments that supported the claims.

The Dane said: "Working very close with Ruud van Nistelrooy is a big step for me. He is doing a great job. I'm trying to bring everything I can every time I step on the pitch, especially here at Old Trafford."

After two matchdays in the Europa League league stage, Manchester United are still winless and Hojlund will hope to be on the scoresheet to help his side get their first win when they take on Fenerbahce on Thursday, October 24.
