Phil Parkinson reveals Wrexham have suffered 'huge' injury blow after George Evans heard 'crack' before being forced off in Stevenage defeat

After making a strong impression as a substitute during Wrexham's clash with Leyton Orient, Evans was handed a starting spot in the following game against Stevenage. Unfortunately, Evans' luck took a turn in the Stevenage match, where he was substituted for James Cannon just after halftime due to an injury that occurred minutes into the second half.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Parkinson expressed his dismay, saying, "It’s such a shame for George because he has worked hard to get back into the team. He felt something crack. I don’t know what it is, but it is a huge blow for us."

The injury setback is particularly concerning given Evans’ history of physical setbacks. Last season, he was sidelined for around six weeks between February and March due to injury, which limited his contributions to the team. This season, Evans has already been battling fitness issues, having picked up a groin injury in August that delayed his return to full action. Just as he seemed to be regaining his footing within the team, this latest injury is yet another setback.

Evans’ injury compounds an already difficult situation for Wrexham, who are also dealing with the loss of defender Max Cleworth. Cleworth sustained ankle ligament damage during Wrexham’s draw with Leyton Orient last weekend, leaving his return date uncertain. However, Parkinson offered some reassurance, stating that Cleworth’s injury might “not be as bad as we first feared.”

He added: "We have had a decent run with injuries so far this season but one or two things have caught up with us a little bit now. We have to reassess a little bit and look ahead to the weekend.”

As Wrexham gear up for their next match against Northampton Town, the squad faces a growing list of injuries. With Evans and Cleworth both likely to miss Parkinson must reshuffle his lineup as they look to pick up their first league win in three games.
