  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    The City midfielder was voted as the standout player of last season by his fellow professionals, seeing off competition from team-mates Erling Haaland - who won last year's award - and Rodri. Cole Palmer, Martin Odegaard and Ollie Watkins were also nominated. He was presented with the award in a glitzy ceremony at the Manchester Opera House on Tuesday night. Chelsea's Cole Palmer won the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

    Manchester City's Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw won the Women's Players' Player of the Year, while Tottenham's Grace Clinton was named Women's PFA Young Player of the Year.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

    Foden helped fire City to a record-breaking fourth Premier League title in a row last season, notching 19 goals plus eight assists. He struck 27 times in all competitions as City also won the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup, while reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League and the final of the FA Cup.

    Foden has won 18 trophies with City, his boyhood club. He has won the PFA Young Player of the Year twice before, in 2020-21 and 2021-22. His PFA Players' Player award completes a clean sweep of the major individual honours, having also won the Football Writers' Association award and the Premier League Player of the Season award.

    WHAT NEXT FOR MAN CITY?

    Foden was given an extended break after helping England reach the Euro 2024 final but he was back in action on Sunday as City began their title defence with a 2-0 win over Chelsea. City play their first home game of the season against Ipswich on Saturday, when Foden will be able to show off his PFA award at the Etihad Stadium.
