WHAT HAPPENED?
The England international was left on the bench for Manchester United's 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace in the Premier League at the weekend, coming on for the final 30 minutes. His absence from the starting XI shocked fans after Rashford bagged a goal against Southampton the week before as well as a brace against Barnsley in the Carabao Cup. The bizarre call by Erik ten Hag has left Scholes questioning whether something has happened behind the scenes to cause Rashford to be dropped.
GOALWHAT SCHOLES SAID
Speaking on The Overlap, brought to you by Sky Bet, the Manchester United icon said: "United are struggling forward wise, aren't they? They're struggling for goals this year, they've scored five goals, three of them were against Southampton. That tells you that the forwards maybe just aren't good enough.
"Leaving Rashford out on Saturday was... he's been up to something, hasn't he? Come on. He's not scored in such a long time, and all of a sudden he scores three goals in two games and he's not playing? He [Ten Hag] said it was rotation...come on, do me a favour."
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Rashford had been grabbing the headlines in recent weeks for his upturn in form, raising further questions as to why Ten Hag opted to put him on the bench against the Eagles. Man Utd struggled to find the net at Selhurst Park, and the 26-year-old has shown that he can provide a clinical edge for Ten Hag's team when firing on all cylinders.
AFPWHAT NEXT FOR RASHFORD?
United's No.10 may get the nod when the Red Devils get their Europa League campaign underway on Wednesday night against Ten Hag's boyhood club, FC Twente. The Manchester club will then host Tottenham on Sunday in the Premier League.
