WHAT HAPPENED?
Eriksen bid farewell to the Red Devils after a three-year stint at Old Trafford by scoring in his final game against Aston Villa and one month later he reflected on his time at the club in an interview with in-house channel MUTV.
Getty THE BIGGER PICTURE
The midfielder collapsed on the pitch during Denmark's game against Finland at the rescheduled European Championship and although he made a full recovery he was subsequently released by Inter. He took the first steps towards rebuilding his career on loan at Brentford before completing a permanent move to United in the summer of 2022.
WHAT ERIKSEN SAID
"I think I've proven that I'm the footballer, not the guy who just had a heart attack. I'm the footballer, and yeah, that's something I'm really proud of," Eriksen said. "To prove a point that people out there who are who have a tough time – you can turn things around. I would say even the darkest times there'll be something positive with time and it'll be the same here with this club. Time will heal a lot of stuff, and then that's how we come back and bounce back."
DID YOU KNOW?
Eriksen won Carabao Cup in 2023 and FA Cup in 2024 with United while also reaching the 2023 FA Cup final and last season's Europa League final. He said: "There's been a lot of good memories, a lot of special games, a lot of special people I've met in my time here. Two trophies and, in between that, a few finals as well. I've really enjoyed my time and a huge thank you to the club, to the fans, to my team-mates. I've really felt at home from day one, me and my family, so it's going to be a special place in my heart, leaving here."

The 33-year-old is now a free agent and is searching for a new club after finishing his contract with the Red Devils. He has ruled out a return to his home country and is also not looking to remain in the Premier League. He said earlier this month: "I would rather get away from the Premier League. I feel I have had my turn in the Premier League, so I am looking outside the English borders. When I moved from Tottenham to Inter, it wasn’t the plan for me to go back to England. I’ve been there for three and a half years again since then, so you can never say never, but the priority is for me to leave."
