  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

A British record fee will be required in order to prise Isak away from Tyneside, with Newcastle reluctant to sell, but the Daily Mail reports that "events of the past seven days have made any potential reintegration extremely difficult" for the talented forward.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

While Eddie Howe’s squad are taking in a pre-season tour of the Far East, Isak was left out of that travelling party. He was said to be nursing a minor injury that required treatment, but the Swede has jetted out to San Sebastian to use the facilities at his former La Liga employers.

The Mail reports how "Newcastle have not denied that the Swede is AWOL". It is claimed that Isak could be in line for a fine if the Magpies "determine he has left Tyneside without their knowledge".

  • WHAT NEXT FOR ISAK?

Newcastle must now decide what to do with Isak, with there little point in retaining the services of a player against his will. They have him tied to a contract until 2028, meaning that a hefty fee can be demanded, with a fresh start potentially the best option for all concerned.
