Newcastle make Anthony Elanga breakthrough! Magpies finally strike deal with Nottingham Forest to sign ex-Man Utd star after impressive campaign

Newcastle and Nottingham Forest have agreed a deal worth £52 million plus bonuses for winger Elanga, as per Fabrizio Romano. The Athletic have added that the former Manchester United has has accepted personal terms and will sign a five-year contract after completing his medical in the coming days. The Magpies had a previous offer rejected but returned with an improved package that has now sealed the transfer.

Elanga’s move follows a standout 2024-25 campaign in which he contributed 17 goal involvements and played every Premier League game for Forest. His performances helped the club secure a seventh-place finish and qualification for the Europa Conference League. Manchester United are also set to receive a significant cut through a sell-on clause they had included in the Swede's sale.

Elanga joined Nottingham Forest from Manchester United in the summer of 2023 but quickly became one of the most consistent wingers in the Premier League. Newcastle have long admired the Swede and reignited their interest after a failed attempt last year. The Athletic revealed their final push came after Forest rejected the Magpies' £45 million bid in June.

The 23-year-old winger is reportedly set to undergo his medical in the next 48 hours and is expected to join up with his new Newcastle team-mates by the end of the week. The club views him as a key attacking addition ahead of the new campaign. Forest, meanwhile, are expected to reinvest the funds into their summer rebuild.
