  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The set-to was instigated by a rash challenge from Greenwood on Villa midfielder Amadou Onana. The ex-United man was late in chopping the Belgian midfielder down from behind. As Greenwood and Onana started to lean on each other, Mings broke the two up before grabbing the Marseille striker by the collar and swinging him around as both sets of players piled in. Greenwood's jersey was torn as result.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

This fiery clash at the Stade Velodrome was only a friendly in name, as the arguments continued after the final whistle. Villa boss Unai Emery and Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi continued to jaw at each other in the immediate aftermath.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Marseille won the game thanks to a goal from Greenwood in the opening five minutes, and a brace from the returned Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Greenwood's effort saw him latch onto a long ball that Mings could well have intercepted, allowing him to nip round the keeper and tap into an empty net.
