    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Forest and Juventus had agreed on a combined package of €25 million (£21m/$29m) for Samuel Mbangula and Weah, but could not agree on terms with the USMNT winger. This resulted in Weah being dropped from the squad for the Club World Cup game against Manchester City, sparking a furious reaction from his agent.

"It's a disgrace. Weah is a fantastic player and fantastic team-mate. To see people acting like this for money and because they are selfish has disappointed me a lot," his representative said.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Marseille are also reportedly keen on signing Jordan Henderson on a free transfer from Ajax. The club have also made clear they are determined to keep Mason Greenwood at the club after he finished joint-top scorer in Ligue 1 in his debut season.

WHAT NEXT FOR WEAH AND MARSEILLE ?

Marseille will hope to wrap up the arrival of the USMNT player this summer as they look to challenge Paris Saint-Germain to domestic honours and make an impression in the Champions League, having finished second in Ligue 1 last term.
