Man Utd transfer hope? Everton 'can't afford' new Jarrad Branthwaite contract as Red Devils 'consider' fresh move for England defender

The England international defender emerged as a top target for the Red Devils in the summer of 2024. Erik ten Hag was eager to bolster his back line at Old Trafford, but was unable to put a deal in place and has since been relieved of his managerial duties.

Interest in Branthwaite is said to have been retained, with further windows of opportunity on the recruitment front set to swing open in 2025. Everton may be forced to consider any official approaches, allowing them to bring in the highest possible fee for the 22-year-old centre-half.

The Toffees would be reluctant sellers, but the Daily Mail claims that they do not have the funds available to agree fresh terms with a player that will see his current contract expire in 2027. With that in mind, and PSR to consider, the Merseyside outfit may have little choice but to cash in.

Everton are said to value Branthwaite at around £70 million ($91m), meaning that United – who already have the likes of Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez, Leny Yoro and Harry Maguire on their books – would need to dig deep in order to land another proven Premier League performer.
