  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Per Record, United have sent scouts to watch Benfica as they continue to scout former youth player Alvaro Carreras. The Spain U21 international initially left United on loan in January of 2024 but Benfica signed him permanently in the summer for a €6 million (£5m) fee. Now, the Red Devils are said to be considering a swoop to re-sign the left-back, in case they fail to agree a deal for Patrick Dorgu of Lecce.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Benfica value Carreras at around £17m ($21m) but any deal may be dependant on whether they can convince Dorgu to make the move to Old Trafford. They have submitted a £25m ($31m) bid for the left-back and clearly view the full-back position as a priority under Ruben Amorim.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Since moving to Benfica, Carreras has made 47 first-team appearances for the club, scoring four goals and registering five assists. He also made 47 appearances for United's Under-21 team, but never made his first-team debut.
